Amaarae has addressed growing backlash after a bold statement about Shatta Wale triggered reactions from Stonebwoy’s fanbase.
At her album listening party in Accra, the genre-blending singer surprised many by declaring Shatta Wale the “baddest artiste in Ghana.” The crowd erupted as she applauded the SM leader, claiming his music resonates from Teshie to New York.
But the shoutout didn’t go over well with everyone. Fans of Stonebwoy, also known as the BHIM Nation, quickly flooded social media. They accused Amaarae of being ungrateful, citing Stonebwoy’s past support and role in introducing her to Ghana’s music scene. Others accused her of stirring controversy for attention.
In response, Amaarae took to social media to cool tensions. She described Stonebwoy as her “big brother for years” and stressed that there was no bad blood. Her praise for Shatta Wale, she explained, came from the energy of the moment, his hit track “Freedom” had just electrified the party.
She also mentioned that she had given flowers to Efya and Eazzy that night and would have gladly hyped Stonebwoy too, if only the DJ had played his songs.
Shatta Wale, always quick to engage online, thanked Amaarae for the love and invited her to collaborate musically.
