Godwin Tamakloe, the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer at Mobile Money Limited, has firmly rejected allegations that MoMo staff or agents are involved in rising mobile money fraud cases across Ghana.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Friday, May 2, Tamakloe addressed public concerns, especially after a viral video showed a woman tearfully claiming she had lost over GHS 11,000 to scammers, despite never sharing her PIN.

Tamakloe explained that the MoMo system does not allow staff to access customer PINs.

“Our staff simply cannot see your PIN. The system generates the PIN. When you click a reset button, the system automatically sends an SMS with a new PIN to the customer. It’s not manually created or controlled by anyone,” he said.

To further reassure users, Tamakloe noted that customers can change their PINs at any time after receiving them.

“Once you receive the system-generated PIN, you can update it to any number of your choice. That gives users full control,” he added.

These clarifications come at a time when public concern over MoMo fraud is at an all-time high. The recent viral incident raised fears that internal staff might be leaking customer information to fraudsters.

In response to these allegations, MTN Ghana also issued a statement. The telecom provider emphasized that its systems are secure and insisted that no money can be withdrawn from a wallet unless the customer intentionally or unknowingly shares their credentials.

Tamakloe concluded by urging users to remain vigilant and safeguard their information. “As long as customers protect their details, especially their PINs, fraudsters cannot access their funds,” he stressed.
